Redundancy and Resilience Features of L2 Switch
The Cisco CBS220-8T-E-2G Business 220 Series Ethernet 8 Ports Switch includes various redundancy and resilience features to ensure that small and medium-sized business networks remain operational even in the event of a failure or network disruption. Some of the key redundancy and resilience features of the Cisco CBS220-8T-E-2G include:
- Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP): This protocol allows multiple physical links to be bundled together to form a single logical link, providing increased bandwidth and redundancy, as traffic can be automatically rerouted in the event of a link failure.
- Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP): RSTP is a faster version of the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) that allows the switch to quickly detect and recover from network topology changes, such as a failed link. This helps to ensure that the network remains operational even in the event of a failure.
- Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP): HSRP allows multiple routers to share a virtual IP address, so that if the primary router fails, a secondary router can take over its responsibilities without interruption.
- Loop protection: The Cisco CBS220-8T-E-2G includes loop protection features that help prevent network loops from forming, which can cause network outages.
- Dual image support: The Cisco CBS220-8T-E-2G supports dual image, which means that two different firmware images can be stored in the switch memory. This allows for easy switchover in case of a firmware failure.
- Dual power supply support: The Cisco CBS220-8T-E-2G supports dual power supply, which allows the switch to continue operating even if one of the power supply fails.
Security and Access Control for Business 220 Series Switch
The Cisco CBS220-8T-E-2G Business 220 Series Ethernet 8 Ports Switch is a switch designed for small and medium-sized businesses that includes various security and access control features to protect the network from unauthorized access and malicious attacks. Some of the key security and access control features of the Cisco CBS220-8T-E-2G include:
- IEEE 802.1X: This standard allows you to authenticate network users using a variety of methods, such as username and password, digital certificates, or biometric authentication.
- Port security: This feature allows you to configure security settings on a per-port basis, such as limiting the number of MAC addresses that can be learned on a port, or disabling a port if a security violation is detected.
- Access control lists (ACLs): ACLs allow you to define specific rules for controlling access to the network, such as allowing or denying traffic based on source and destination IP address, port number, or protocol.
- Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) snooping: DHCP snooping helps to prevent unauthorized DHCP servers from providing incorrect IP addresses to devices on the network.
- IP Source Guard: IP Source Guard helps to prevent unauthorized devices from connecting to the network by only allowing devices with a valid IP address to connect to the network.
- Statically configured MAC addresses: You can configure the switch to only allow specific MAC addresses to connect to the network, which helps to prevent unauthorized devices from connecting to the network.
- VLAN Access Control List (VACL): VACLs allow you to apply access control to traffic that is specific to a VLAN.
- Enhanced security for management access: The switch supports Secure Shell (SSH) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for secure management access to the switch, and also supports secure management access via HTTPS.
- Quality of Service (QoS): The switch includes QoS features that allow you to prioritize certain types of traffic, such as time-sensitive voice or video traffic, over less critical traffic, such as email or web browsing.

Different Types of Switches
Networking switches vary widely depending on the number of devices they can support, network bandwidth/speed, and form factor. Switches for small offices will have anything between 4 and 8 ports and can fit on a desk. For larger office network implementation, switches may have 24 ports, 48 ports, 96 ports, and 128 ports and are rack-mountable between 1U and 4U. Switches come in different types depending on the network speed and tasks they support. These include 40/100 Gbps, 10 Gigabit (up to 10000 Mbps), Gigabit Ethernet (up to 1000 Mbps), Power over Ethernet, and Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps).
Unmanaged Switches
The unmanaged switches offer fixed configurations on a plug-and-play basis. It is the most basic switch and there are a few choices in the market. These switches are affordable, but the basic features make them inappropriate for enterprise applications.
Managed Switches
The number of features and level of functionality improves with managed switches, making them ideal for enterprise and business applications. These switches are built with the command-line interface for ease of configuration. Equally, they support SNMP agents that come in handy when troubleshooting network issues.
The security on managed switches is better and will protect different types of traffic. Other features include support for virtual LANs, IP routing, and quality of service settings. Managed switches are more expensive compared to all other types of switches.
Smart Switches
Smart switches refer to switches that possess more features than those unmanaged switches but do not have the full features of managed switches. Smart switches are more cost-effective than managed switches.
Some of the limitations of the smart switches are a lack of telnet access support, Web GUIs, and a lack of many features for VLANs. They are affordable compared to a fully managed switch and are suitable for a smaller computer network.
Modular Switches
Modular switches allow the addition of expansion modules as the network expands. The expansion modules allow for more networked devices but are application-specific. They may include wireless access points, firewalls, or network analysis tools. The flexibility of a modular networking switch comes at a higher cost.

What is the Manufacturer/Brand Warranty?
In general, a manufacturer's warranty service/support is a written guarantee to the buyer of a product. Its terms assure the replacement or repair of the product, if necessary, within a specified period after the purchase (2-5 years depending on the brand/manufacturer). It is typically included in the price of the product. Products are brand new and sealed and the original manufacturer box is complete with the Manufacturer's genuine warranty. For most of the brand new/retail products that come with the manual and box, exceptions may apply (i.e., Cisco, Juniper Networks).
For the server parts (i.e., Dell, HPE) to get Full coverage of the warranty server must have a full 3- 5 years warranty. However, ALLHDD.COM will cover the warranty duration if any Manufacturer doesn't support the advertised warranty and there is no refund for those.
