High Performance of 200 Series Switch
The SG200-50FP-NA is a Cisco 50-port Gigabit Full-PoE Smart Switch that is designed for small to medium-sized businesses. It offers high-performance switching capabilities and advanced security features, as well as support for Power over Ethernet (PoE) for powering devices such as IP phones and wireless access points. The switch also includes a web-based interface for easy management and configuration, and supports Quality of Service (QoS) for prioritizing network traffic. Additionally, it supports Cisco's Smartports which is a feature that enable the switch to automatically configure itself based on the type of device connected to it, such as a server, IP phone, or wireless access point.
Compliant Standards
The SG200-50FP-NA Cisco 50-Ports Gigabit Full-PoE Smart Switch is a networking device that is compliant with several industry standards. These standards ensure that the switch is compatible with other devices and systems, and that it meets certain performance and functionality requirements.
Some of the compliant standards for this part include:
- IEEE 802.3: This is the standard for Ethernet, which defines the physical and data link layers of the OSI model. The switch is compliant with IEEE 802.3ab for Gigabit Ethernet, and IEEE 802.3u for Fast Ethernet.
- IEEE 802.3af: This is the standard for Power over Ethernet (PoE), which allows the switch to power connected devices using the same Ethernet cable that is used for data transmission. This part is compliant with IEEE 802.3af, which supports a maximum of 15.4 watts per port.
- IEEE 802.3at: This is the standard for PoE+, which increases the power output to 30 watts per port. This part is compliant with IEEE 802.3at, which allows it to power devices that require more power such as high-definition cameras and wireless access points.
- IEEE 802.3x: This is the standard for flow control, which ensures that the switch can handle high-bandwidth traffic without dropping packets. This item is compliant with IEEE 802.3x, which uses a pause frame to temporarily stop the flow of packets when the buffer is full.
- IEEE 802.1p: This is the standard for Quality of Service (QoS), which allows the switch to prioritize different types of traffic based on their importance. This item is compliant with IEEE 802.1p, which uses a priority field in the Ethernet frame to identify the traffic class.
- IEEE 802.1Q: This is the standard for VLAN tagging, which allows the switch to divide the network into multiple virtual networks. This product is compliant with IEEE 802.1Q, which uses a VLAN tag in the Ethernet frame to identify the VLAN.
Quality of Service (QoS) and Traffic Management
The Cisco SG200-50FP-NA is a full-PoE Smart Switch that provides Quality of Service (QoS) and Traffic Management capabilities to prioritize and manage network traffic. This helps to prevent network congestion and ensure that critical applications receive sufficient bandwidth.
QoS features include:
- Class of Service (CoS) based on layer 2 and 3 information
- Traffic prioritization using IEEE 802.1p priority tags
- Weighted Round Robin (WRR) queuing to allocate bandwidth
Traffic Management features include:
- Storm control to prevent network congestion from broadcast, multicast, or unicast storms
- Port-based or 802.1p-based VLANs for traffic segmentation
- Port mirroring for network monitoring and troubleshooting
- Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) for load balancing and redundancy
These features provide a flexible and efficient way to manage network traffic, ensuring the highest possible quality of service for mission-critical applications and services.

About Refurbished Products
Different Types of Switches
Networking switches vary widely depending on the number of devices they can support, network bandwidth/speed, and form factor. Switches for small offices will have anything between 4 and 8 ports and can fit on a desk. For larger office network implementation, switches may have 24 ports, 48 ports, 96 ports, and 128 ports and are rack-mountable between 1U and 4U. Switches come in different types depending on the network speed and tasks they support. These include 40/100 Gbps, 10 Gigabit (up to 10000 Mbps), Gigabit Ethernet (up to 1000 Mbps), Power over Ethernet, and Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps).
Unmanaged Switches
The unmanaged switches offer fixed configuration on a plug-and-play basis. It is the most basic switch and there are a few choices in the market. These switches are affordable, but the basic features make them inappropriate for enterprise applications.
Managed Switches
The number of features and level of functionality improves with managed switches, making them ideal for enterprise and business applications. These switches are built with the command-line interface for ease of configuration. Equally, they support SNMP agents that come in handy when troubleshooting network issues.
The security on managed switches is better and will protect different types of traffic. Other features include support for virtual LANs, IP routing, and quality of service settings. Managed switches are more expensive compared to all other types of switches.
Smart Switches
Smart switches refer to switches that possess more features than those of unmanaged switches but do not have the full features of managed switches. Smart switches are more cost-effective than managed switches.
Some of the limitations of the smart switches are a lack of telnet access support, Web GUIs, and a lack of many features for VLANs. They are affordable compared to a fully managed switch and are suitable for a smaller computer network.
Modular Switches
Modular switches allow the addition of expansion modules as the network expands. The expansion modules allow for more networked devices but are application-specific. They may include wireless access points, firewalls, or network analysis tools. The flexibility of a modular networking switch comes at a higher cost.
