Understanding the Terminology of SAS-12GBPS Read Intensive SSD
Let's start by dissecting the complex terminology used in the product name to get a clear understanding of what this SSD offers:
- 400-BBQH: This is likely the product or model number assigned by Dell to this specific SSD.
- 3.84 Terabytes (TB): This represents the storage capacity of the SSD, which is an impressive 3.84 terabytes. This means it can store a vast amount of data, making it suitable for large-scale server applications.
- Serial-Attached SCSI (SAS): SAS is a type of interface used for connecting hard drives and SSDs to servers. It's known for its reliability and high-speed data transfer capabilities.
- 12 Gigabytes Per Second (GBPS): This refers to the data transfer speed of the SSD. It can read and write data at a rate of 12 gigabytes per second, which is exceptionally fast.
- Read Intensive: This suggests that the SSD is optimized for reading data rather than writing. In many server applications, especially those involving databases, reading data quickly is crucial for performance.
- BICs Flash Triple Level Cell (TLC): This describes the type of NAND flash memory used in the SSD. TLC NAND is known for its balance of performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Advanced Format 512e: This indicates the physical sector size of the SSD, which is 512 bytes. Advanced Format is a modern format that allows for more efficient storage and error correction.
- 2.5-inch Hot-Plug: This refers to the physical size and hot-plug capability of the SSD. The 2.5-inch form factor is standard for many server drives, and hot-plug means you can replace it without shutting down the server.
- Dell Certified: This is a crucial aspect. It means that this SSD has undergone rigorous testing by Dell and is guaranteed to be compatible with their PowerEdge server lineup.
- Solid State Drive (SSD): Unlike traditional hard drives, SSDs have no moving parts, which makes them faster and more reliable. They are the go-to choice for modern servers.
- KPM5XRUG3T84 with tray: This likely refers to the specific SKU or package of the SSD, which includes a tray for easy installation in a Dell PowerEdge server.
Exploring the Key Features
Now that we've deciphered the product name, let's delve into the key features of this Dell Certified SSD:
- Impressive Storage Capacity: With 3.84 terabytes of storage space, this SSD can handle vast amounts of data, making it suitable for applications that require high-capacity storage, such as data analytics, virtualization, and content delivery.
- High-Speed Data Transfer: The 12 gigabytes per second data transfer speed ensures that data can be read quickly, which is essential for tasks like running virtual machines and accessing large databases.
- Read-Optimized: The "Read Intensive" designation means that this SSD is optimized for reading data, making it ideal for applications where data retrieval speed is critical.
- NAND Flash Technology: The use of Triple Level Cell (TLC) NAND flash memory strikes a balance between performance and cost-efficiency. TLC NAND is known for its durability and ability to store multiple bits of data in each cell.
- Advanced Format: The 512e Advanced Format allows for efficient storage and data error correction. This ensures that your data remains intact and accurate.
- Hot-Plug Capability: The 2.5-inch form factor and hot-plug feature make it easy to replace or upgrade the SSD without disrupting server operations. This is crucial for minimizing downtime in enterprise environments.
