Management and Monitoring Capabilities of 8 Ports Switch
The JG921A HPE 1920-8g-PoE is a rack-mountable switch that has management and monitoring capabilities through its web interface and command-line interface (CLI). The web interface allows for easy configuration and monitoring of the switch, while the CLI offers advanced options for managing the switch. The switch also supports SNMP for monitoring and management through network management systems. Additionally, it has port-based and 802.1X network access control, and Quality of Service (QoS) features to prioritize and manage network traffic. It also supports PoE (Power over Ethernet) which allows the switch to power devices connected to it over the Ethernet cable, providing an alternative to traditional power sources.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
- Power Cycle the Switch: If the switch is not responding, try power cycling it by unplugging the power cord and then plugging it back in. This may resolve any temporary issues with the switch.
- Check the Connections: Make sure that all cables are properly connected to the switch. Check for loose or damaged cables and replace them if necessary.
- Update the Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for the switch. Updating the firmware can resolve any software-related issues.
- Check the PoE Settings: Make sure that the PoE settings on the switch are configured correctly. Verify that the PoE is enabled on the ports that need it and that the power budget is set correctly.
- Check the Switch Configuration: Verify that the switch is configured correctly. Check the VLANs, IP addresses, and other settings to ensure that they are configured as needed.
- Check the LEDs: Check the LEDs on the switch to see if there are any error messages. The LEDs can indicate a variety of issues, such as a failed port or a power problem.
- Check the Temperature: Make sure that the switch is operating within the recommended temperature range. High temperatures can cause the switch to shut down or malfunction.
- Check the Fans: Make sure that the fans in the switch are working properly. If the fans are not working, the switch may overheat and shut down.
- Check for Dust: Clean the switch of dust, it can cause overheating problems. Use a compressed air can or a small vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the switch.
- Contact HPE Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact HPE support for further assistance. Provide them with the model number and serial number of the switch and any error messages that you have encountered.
Scalable and Reliable
The JG921A HPE 1920-8g-PoE Rack-Mountable 8 Ports Switch is a scalable and reliable option for businesses looking to expand their network infrastructure. It is designed to handle high-bandwidth traffic and support Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices, making it an ideal choice for deploying VoIP phones, wireless access points, and security cameras.
One of the key features of this switch is its scalability. It has 8 Gigabit Ethernet ports, which can be expanded to 24 ports with the use of additional modules. This allows businesses to grow their network as needed without having to replace the entire switch.
The JG921A also offers reliable performance. It has a robust and resilient architecture that is built to handle high-bandwidth traffic and provide low latency. Additionally, it supports advanced security features such as access control lists and 802.1X authentication to help protect against network threats.
The switch also supports PoE, which allows businesses to power devices such as phones and cameras over the Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for additional power outlets. This can save on costs and simplify installation.

About Refurbished Products
Different Types of Switches
Networking switches vary widely depending on the number of devices they can support, network bandwidth/speed, and form factor. Switches for small offices will have anything between 4 and 8 ports and can fit on a desk. For larger office network implementation, switches may have 24 ports, 48 ports, 96 ports, and 128 ports and are rack-mountable between 1U and 4U. Switches come in different types depending on the network speed and tasks they support. These include 40/100 Gbps, 10 Gigabit (up to 10000 Mbps), Gigabit Ethernet (up to 1000 Mbps), Power over Ethernet, and Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps).
The unmanaged switches offer fixed configuration on a plug-and-play basis. It is the most basic switch and there are a few choices in the market. These switches are affordable, but the basic features make them inappropriate for enterprise applications.
The number of features and level of functionality improves with managed switches, making them ideal for enterprise and business applications. These switches are built with the command-line interface for ease of configuration. Equally, they support SNMP agents that come in handy when troubleshooting network issues.
The security on managed switches is better and will protect different types of traffic. Other features include support for virtual LANs, IP routing, and quality of service settings. Managed switches are more expensive compared to all other types of switches.
Smart switches refer to switches that possess more features than those of unmanaged switches but do not have the full features of managed switches. Smart switches are more cost-effective than managed switches.
Some of the limitations of the smart switches are a lack of telnet access support, Web GUIs, and a lack of many features for VLANs. They are affordable compared to a fully managed switch and are suitable for a smaller computer network.
Modular switches allow the addition of expansion modules as the network expands. The expansion modules allow for more networked devices but are application-specific. They may include wireless access points, firewalls, or network analysis tools. The flexibility of a modular networking switch comes at a higher cost.
