Battery Performance and Capacity
The 90P5245 IBM ServeRaid 7K Ultra320 SCSI Controller with Battery is an expansion card used in servers and other computer systems. The battery is included as a backup power source for the controller, ensuring that it can continue to function even in the event of a power failure. The battery performance and capacity refer to the amount of power that the battery can store and the amount of time it can provide power to the controller.
The battery is typically a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 3.7V and 1150mAh. The capacity of a battery is measured in milliampere-hours (mAh) and it represents the amount of energy that can be stored in the battery and it determines the battery runtime. The voltage is a measure of the electrical potential energy in the battery. The battery capacity is enough to provide power to the controller for a short period of time in the event of a power failure, allowing the controller to finish any data writes and ensure data integrity.
The battery performance can also be affected by how it's used and stored, a battery that is regularly charged and discharged will last longer than a battery that is left unused for long periods of time. It's important to regularly check the battery status, charge it when necessary, and to follow the manufacturer's instructions for safe use and storage to ensure that the battery is ready to provide power to the controller in the event of a power failure.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
Troubleshooting and maintenance are important aspects of ensuring that the 90P5245 IBM ServeRaid 7K Ultra320 SCSI Controller with Battery is functioning properly. Regular maintenance and troubleshooting can help prevent issues with the controller and battery, and can also help to identify and resolve any problems that may occur.
Some common troubleshooting steps for the 90P5245 IBM ServeRaid 7K Ultra320 SCSI Controller with Battery include:
- Checking the status of the battery: This can be done through the controller's management software or through the system's BIOS. If the battery is low or needs to be replaced, this will be indicated.
- Charging the battery: If the battery is low or not charging properly, it may be necessary to charge the battery. This can be done by connecting the controller to a power source, or by replacing the battery if necessary.
- Checking the controller's firmware and drivers: Make sure that the controller's firmware and drivers are up to date, as out-of-date software can lead to issues with the controller and battery.
- Checking for errors and messages: The controller's management software or the system's event log can provide information about any errors or issues that may be occurring with the controller or battery.
- Replacing the battery: If the battery is not functioning properly, it may need to be replaced.
- Keeping the controller and battery clean: Dust or other debris can accumulate on the controller and battery, which can cause overheating or other issues. Regularly cleaning the controller and battery can help prevent these issues.
It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for troubleshooting and maintenance to ensure that the controller and battery are functioning properly.
The 90P5245 IBM ServeRaid 7K Ultra320 SCSI Controller with Battery is designed to provide RAID functionality for IBM servers. RAID, or Redundant Array of Independent Disks, is a technology that allows multiple physical disks to be combined into a single logical unit, providing increased performance and data protection.
There are several different RAID levels that can be used, each with its own set of benefits and limitations. The 90P5245 IBM ServeRaid 7K Ultra320 SCSI Controller with Battery supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10 and RAID 50.
RAID 0: Striping is used to improve performance by spreading data across multiple disks.
RAID 1: Mirroring is used to provide data redundancy by copying data from one disk to another.
RAID 5: Parity is used to provide data redundancy and protection against a single disk failure.
RAID 6: Dual parity is used to provide data redundancy and protection against two disk failures.
RAID 10: Striping and mirroring are used together to provide both performance and data redundancy.
RAID 50: Striping is used at the virtual disk level and Parity is used at the RAID 5 level to provide data redundancy and protection against single disk failures.
The 90P5245 IBM ServeRaid 7K Ultra320 SCSI Controller with Battery also offers advanced features such as online RAID level migration, hot spare and automatic rebuild.

About Refurbished Products
Computer servers have RAID controllers. RAID is a short form for Redundant Array Independent Disk that sits between the operating system and data storage devices. As the name suggests, RAID provides redundancy and improves the performance of disk storage devices. RAID controllers virtualize the storage drives into different groups that possess both data protection and redundancy features.
Why Do RAID Controllers Need Batteries?
Any RAID Controller should have a battery to avoid data loss when there is a power outage on the mainline. The batteries can be smart cache, capacitors, or lithium-ion batteries. When the main power goes out before the data write to the cache is completed, it can be lost. As a result, controllers, not necessarily RAID controllers, switch to the backup battery to complete the write sequence. You should ensure that the battery controller is in good working condition.
Controller Battery by Voltage
Different servers have different controller models. That means that the controller batteries also must have varying specifications. Apart from the physical size, the voltage rating is a crucial factor to consider. There are different battery ratings for different systems. For example, you will need 4.3V batteries for DL580 servers and 4.8V batteries for P-series controllers. Similarly, the 7.2V battery is for HP ProLiant BI460C servers. Check the voltage rating of the controller battery to ensure that it matches that which your system has. Any deviation can lead to costly disasters.
Battery Controller for Different Applications
Controller batteries are application-specific. You can only shop for a new battery after knowing the target device. Otherwise, it will just be a waste of time and resources. Dell PERC controller batteries are for PowerEdge servers, and HP controller batteries are for P-series servers. You cannot exchange the tow or any other battery controller. As a piece of advice, always consult with technical experts if not sure about the controller battery you need to buy.

What is the Manufacturer/Brand Warranty?
In general, a manufacturer's warranty service/support is a written guarantee to the buyer of a product. Its terms assure the replacement or repair of the product, if necessary, within a specified period after the purchase (2-5 years depending on the brand/manufacturer). It is typically included in the price of the product. Products are brand new and sealed and the original manufacturer box is complete with the Manufacturer's genuine warranty. For most of the brand new/retail products that come with the manual and box, exceptions may apply (i.e., Cisco, Juniper Networks).
For the server parts (i.e., Dell, HPE) to get Full coverage of the warranty server must have a full 3- 5 years warranty. However, ALLHDD.COM will cover the warranty duration if any Manufacturer doesn't support the advertised warranty and there is no refund for those.
