Media converters are devices that are used in the implementation and optimization of fiber links in any network type. The devices are cost-effective and flexible, making them convenient.

The most popular media converter type is a device that serves as a transceiver. It converts electrical signals utilized in the network cabling of copper UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) into waves of light used in the cabling of fiber optics.

Media converters can be found as Layer 2 switching devices or physical layer. They are able to offer rate-switching along with other high-end switching properties such as VLAN tagging. Typically, the converters are protocol specific and can support a large variety of data rates and network types.

The 10–100 fiber optic series of transceivers can be applied between 100 Base-TX cable and 100 Base-FX fiber cable. The 10 Base – T cable and 10 Base – FL fiber cable can also be used for the purposes of data transmission. It is ideal for an intelligent society and stretches the transmission of the network from 100 meters to 100 kilometres.

It can also interconnect repeaters, motherboard servers, switches, terminals, and hubs. The design, plug, and play allow easy installation. On-site adjustment is not required, every light, and electrical interface is in accordance with international standards. Products can be applied to various extreme industrial environments.

10-100-1000

Media converters offer more than just the conversion of copper to fiber and the conversion between various types of fiber. For Ethernet networks, they are capable of supporting integrated switch technology and offer the capability of performing 10-100 and 10-100-1000 rate switching.

The converters can also support progressive features such as Quality of Service prioritization (QoS), VLAN, Bandwidth Control, and Port Access Control. The ONV1110-SLX-S4 series is developed independently by ONV. It is a gigabit fiber media converter having 1 port (1000M uplink SC/LC fiber) and 4 ports (10-100-1000 Base – T).
