Routing and Switching Protocols
The SG350-10P-K9-NA Small Business SG350-10P 10 Ports Managed Switch is a managed switch that supports a variety of routing and switching protocols to help manage and organize network traffic.
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) is a network protocol that helps prevent loops in a network by selectively shutting down redundant links. Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) are variations of STP that improve network convergence time and provide more flexibility in network design.
Virtual LAN (VLAN) allows the switch to segment a physical network into multiple logical networks, allowing for better network management and security. Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) allows multiple physical links to be bundled together to form a single logical link, providing redundancy and increased bandwidth.
Quality of Service (QoS) allows the switch to prioritize network traffic, ensuring that important traffic, such as voice or video, is given priority over less important traffic. Access Control Lists (ACL) provide granular control over network access, allowing the administrator to specify which devices and users have access to certain parts of the network.
Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) and Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) are networking protocols that help with network management and troubleshooting. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) allows devices on the network to automatically obtain IP addresses and other configuration information, simplifying network setup and management. Network Time Protocol (NTP) helps ensure that all devices on the network have accurate time. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) allows network devices to be monitored and managed remotely.
It also supports IPv4 and IPv6 routing protocols such as Routing Information Protocol (RIP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF). These protocols are used to determine the best path for data to travel through the network, ensuring efficient use of network resources and reducing congestion.
Maximizing Network Performance
Maximizing the network performance of the SG350-10P-K9-NA Small Business SG350-10P 10 Ports Managed Switch involves utilizing various features and protocols to effectively manage and organize network traffic.
One way to improve performance is by using Quality of Service (QoS) to prioritize network traffic. This ensures that important traffic, such as voice or video, is given priority over less important traffic. This can help to ensure that critical applications have the necessary bandwidth to function properly and avoid congestion.
Another way to increase performance is by using Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) to bundle multiple physical links together to form a single logical link, providing redundancy and increased bandwidth. This can help to increase the overall throughput of the network.
Virtual LANs (VLANs) can also be used to segment a physical network into multiple logical networks, improving network management and security. VLANs can also help to isolate different types of traffic, reducing congestion and increasing performance.
Using routing protocols such as Routing Information Protocol (RIP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) can help to determine the best path for data to travel through the network, ensuring efficient use of network resources and reducing congestion.
Monitoring network performance using tools such as Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) can help to identify bottlenecks and other issues that may be impacting network performance. This allows you to take steps to resolve the issues and improve performance.
Keeping your device firmware updated can also help to ensure that the switch is running the most recent version with performance improvements and bug fixes.
Properly configuring switch ports can also help to ensure that devices are connected to the right VLANs and that traffic is flowing as expected. This can help to improve performance by reducing congestion and ensuring that devices are communicating effectively.
Power over Ethernet (PoE+) Capabilities
The SG350-10P-K9-NA Small Business SG350-10P 10 Ports Managed Switch supports Power over Ethernet (PoE+) capabilities. PoE+ allows the switch to provide power to connected devices over the Ethernet cables, eliminating the need for separate power cables and outlets. This can be especially useful for powering devices such as wireless access points, IP cameras, and VoIP phones.
The switch supports PoE+ on all 10 ports, providing up to 30 watts of power per port. This allows the switch to power a wide range of PoE-enabled devices, including high-power devices such as pan-tilt-zoom cameras.
The switch also supports PoE power management features, allowing you to monitor the power consumption of connected devices and set power budgets to ensure that there is enough power available for all devices. This can help to prevent power overloads and ensure that devices are operating at peak performance.

About Refurbished Products
Different Types of Switches
Networking switches vary widely depending on the number of devices they can support, network bandwidth/speed, and form factor. Switches for small offices will have anything between 4 and 8 ports and can fit on a desk. For larger office network implementation, switches may have 24 ports, 48 ports, 96 ports, and 128 ports and are rack-mountable between 1U and 4U. Switches come in different types depending on the network speed and tasks they support. These include 40/100 Gbps, 10 Gigabit (up to 10000 Mbps), Gigabit Ethernet (up to 1000 Mbps), Power over Ethernet, and Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps).
Unmanaged Switches
The unmanaged switches offer fixed configurations on a plug-and-play basis. It is the most basic switch and there are a few choices in the market. These switches are affordable, but the basic features make them inappropriate for enterprise applications.
Managed Switches
The number of features and level of functionality improves with managed switches, making them ideal for enterprise and business applications. These switches are built with the command-line interface for ease of configuration. Equally, they support SNMP agents that come in handy when troubleshooting network issues.
The security on managed switches is better and will protect different types of traffic. Other features include support for virtual LANs, IP routing, and quality of service settings. Managed switches are more expensive compared to all other types of switches.
Smart Switches
Smart switches refer to switches that possess more features than those unmanaged switches but do not have the full features of managed switches. Smart switches are more cost-effective than managed switches.
Some of the limitations of the smart switches are a lack of telnet access support, Web GUIs, and a lack of many features for VLANs. They are affordable compared to a fully managed switch and are suitable for a smaller computer network.
Modular Switches
Modular switches allow the addition of expansion modules as the network expands. The expansion modules allow for more networked devices but are application-specific. They may include wireless access points, firewalls, or network analysis tools. The flexibility of a modular networking switch comes at a higher cost.
