Introduction to the Ethernet Module
The WS-X6516-GE-TX is a Cisco Catalyst module that provides 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports. It can be installed in a Cisco Catalyst 6500 series switch, providing a high-speed, low-latency connection for a large number of devices. The module supports standard Ethernet protocols, including IEEE 802.3ab (1000BASE-T) and IEEE 802.3z (1000BASE-X), and it is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3x flow control and IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging. Additionally, it supports advanced features such as Quality of Service (QoS) and Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
The part is a high-performance module that can handle large amounts of data traffic, making it ideal for use in data centers, enterprise networks, and service provider environments. The module is designed to be reliable and durable, and it is built to withstand the demands of a network environment.
Network Management and Security Features
The WS-X6516-GE-TX Cisco Catalyst 16 Ports Ethernet Module is a high-performance device that provides advanced network management and security features.
For network management, the switch supports Cisco IOS Software, which provides a comprehensive set of tools for configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting the switch. Additionally, the switch supports Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), which allows for the remote monitoring and management of the switch. The switch also supports the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), which allows for the discovery of neighboring Cisco devices and the collection of device information.
For security, the switch supports a variety of features such as:
- Access Control Lists (ACLs) which allow for the filtering of incoming and outgoing traffic based on specified criteria.
- Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) which allow for the segmentation of a network into smaller, more manageable subnets.
- Port security which allows for the restriction of access to specific ports based on MAC address.
- IEEE 802.1x which allows for the authentication of devices connecting to the switch.
- Secure Shell (SSH) which provides a secure method for remotely accessing the switch.
- Cisco TrustSec which allows for the secure communication between devices on the network.
Powerful and Reliable Switching
The WS-X6516-GE-TX Cisco Catalyst 16 Ports Ethernet Module is a powerful and reliable switching device that provides high-performance and scalability.
The switch is equipped with 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports, which provide high-speed connectivity for devices on the network. The ports support both full-duplex and half-duplex operation, allowing for maximum flexibility and efficiency. Additionally, the switch supports Quality of Service (QoS) which allows for the prioritization of network traffic, ensuring that critical applications receive the necessary bandwidth.
The switch also supports Cisco FlexStack, which allows for the stacking of multiple switches to provide increased bandwidth and redundancy. This feature allows for easy scalability as the network grows and allows for the management of the stack as a single entity.
The switch also supports advanced features such as Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) and Link Aggregation Groups (LAGs) which bundle multiple physical interfaces into a single logical interface, providing increased bandwidth and redundancy.

About Refurbished Products
Different Types of Switches
Networking switches vary widely depending on the number of devices they can support, network bandwidth/speed, and form factor. Switches for small offices will have anything between 4 and 8 ports and can fit on a desk. For larger office network implementation, switches may have 24 ports, 48 ports, 96 ports, and 128 ports and are rack-mountable between 1U and 4U. Switches come in different types depending on the network speed and tasks they support. These include 40/100 Gbps, 10 Gigabit (up to 10000 Mbps), Gigabit Ethernet (up to 1000 Mbps), Power over Ethernet, and Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps).
The unmanaged switches offer fixed configurations on a plug-and-play basis. It is the most basic switch and there are a few choices in the market. These switches are affordable, but the basic features make them inappropriate for enterprise applications.
The number of features and level of functionality improves with managed switches, making them ideal for enterprise and business applications. These switches are built with the command-line interface for ease of configuration. Equally, they support SNMP agents that come in handy when troubleshooting network issues.
The security on managed switches is better and will protect different types of traffic. Other features include support for virtual LANs, IP routing, and quality of service settings. Managed switches are more expensive compared to all other types of switches.
Smart switches refer to switches that possess more features than those unmanaged switches but do not have the full features of managed switches. Smart switches are more cost-effective than managed switches.
Some of the limitations of the smart switches are a lack of telnet access support, Web GUIs, and a lack of many features for VLANs. They are affordable compared to a fully managed switch and are suitable for a smaller computer network.
Modular switches allow the addition of expansion modules as the network expands. The expansion modules allow for more networked devices but are application-specific. They may include wireless access points, firewalls, or network analysis tools. The flexibility of a modular networking switch comes at a higher cost.
