Advanced Features 24 Ports Switch
The Cisco ME-3400-24TS-D is a 24-port Ethernet access layer 3 switch that provides advanced features such as:
Quality of Service (QoS): QoS allows you to prioritize network traffic based on different criteria, such as the type of traffic or the source of the traffic. This ensures that important traffic, such as voice or video, is given priority over less important traffic, such as file transfers or web browsing.
VLAN support: Virtual LANs (VLANs) allow you to segment your network into smaller, more manageable groups, known as VLANs. This allows you to isolate different types of traffic and restrict communication between different groups of devices, which improves security and improves the performance of your network.
Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP): LACP allows you to bundle multiple physical links together to form a single logical link. This increases the bandwidth available to your network, and also provides redundancy in case one of the physical links fails.
Routing protocols: Routing protocols such as OSPF and RIP allow the switch to dynamically learn and update the routes in the network. This allows the switch to make better forwarding decisions, and improves the overall performance of your network.
Access Control Lists (ACLs): ACLs allow you to define rules that control the flow of traffic in and out of the switch. This can be used to block unwanted traffic, such as malicious traffic, or to limit the amount of bandwidth available to certain types of traffic.
IPv6 support: IPv6 is the next generation of internet protocol, and provides a larger address space and improved security features compared to IPv4. By supporting IPv6, the switch can communicate with devices that use IPv6 addresses, which is important for future-proofing your network.
SNMP and RMON: Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Remote Monitoring (RMON) allows network administrator to monitor and manage the switch remotely. This includes monitoring the switch's performance, such as the amount of traffic flowing through the switch, and also configuring the switch's settings.
Redundant power supply options: The switch supports Redundant power supply options, allowing the switch to continue operating even if one of the power supplies fails. This ensures that your network remains up and running even in the event of a power failure.
Power Options and Redundancy
The Cisco ME-3400-24TS-D supports several power options and redundancy features to ensure that the switch remains operational even in the event of a power failure.
Power options: The switch can be powered by either an AC or DC power supply. This allows you to choose the power source that is most appropriate for your network environment.
Redundant power supply: The switch supports a redundant power supply option, which allows it to continue operating even if one of the power supplies fails. This ensures that the switch remains operational and that your network remains up and running in the event of a power failure.
Power over Ethernet (PoE): The switch supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) which allows you to power devices such as IP phones, wireless access points, and security cameras through the Ethernet cable. This eliminates the need for separate power cables, which simplifies the installation and reduces clutter.
The ME-3400-24TS-D also support Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) which allows for providing more power to devices like IP phones and Wireless Access Points, which require more power.
This switch also supports Cisco EnergyWise which allows for power management of devices connected to the switch, reducing energy consumption and cost.
Security and Quality of Service
The Cisco ME-3400-24TS-D has several security and Quality of Service (QoS) features to protect your network and ensure that important traffic is given priority.
- Access Control Lists (ACLs) allow you to define rules that control the flow of traffic in and out of the switch, which can be used to block unwanted traffic and improve security.
- IEEE 802.1X Network Access Control provides a way to authenticate and authorize devices that are attempting to connect to the network, which improves security by preventing unauthorized access.
- Port security allows you to limit the number of MAC addresses that can be learned on a port, preventing unauthorized devices from connecting to the network.
Quality of Service (QoS) features:
- Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) allows you to prioritize network traffic based on the type of traffic, ensuring that important traffic such as voice and video is given priority over less important traffic such as file transfers or web browsing.
- Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED) helps prevent network congestion by randomly dropping packets when the switch's buffers become full.
- Quality of Service (QoS) policies allow you to configure the switch to prioritize certain types of traffic, such as voice or video, over other types of traffic, such as file transfers or web browsing.
Additionally, the switch supports Layer 3 Quality of Service (QoS) which allows for traffic management and prioritization based on IP addresses, protocols, and other parameters.
The switch also supports Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) which allows for bundling multiple physical links together to form a single logical link. This increases the bandwidth available to your network, and also provides redundancy in case one of the physical links fails.

About Refurbished Products
Different Types of Switches
Networking switches vary widely depending on the number of devices they can support, network bandwidth/speed, and form factor. Switches for small offices will have anything between 4 and 8 ports and can fit on a desk. For larger office network implementation, switches may have 24 ports, 48 ports, 96 ports, and 128 ports and are rack-mountable between 1U and 4U. Switches come in different types depending on the network speed and tasks they support. These include 40/100 Gbps, 10 Gigabit (up to 10000 Mbps), Gigabit Ethernet (up to 1000 Mbps), Power over Ethernet, and Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps).
The unmanaged switches offer fixed configurations on a plug-and-play basis. It is the most basic switch and there are a few choices in the market. These switches are affordable, but the basic features make them inappropriate for enterprise applications.
The number of features and level of functionality improves with managed switches, making them ideal for enterprise and business applications. These switches are built with the command-line interface for ease of configuration. Equally, they support SNMP agents that come in handy when troubleshooting network issues.
The security on managed switches is better and will protect different types of traffic. Other features include support for virtual LANs, IP routing, and quality of service settings. Managed switches are more expensive compared to all other types of switches.
Smart switches refer to switches that possess more features than those unmanaged switches but do not have the full features of managed switches. Smart switches are more cost-effective than managed switches.
Some of the limitations of the smart switches are a lack of telnet access support, Web GUIs, and a lack of many features for VLANs. They are affordable compared to a fully managed switch and are suitable for a smaller computer network.
Modular switches allow the addition of expansion modules as the network expands. The expansion modules allow for more networked devices but are application-specific. They may include wireless access points, firewalls, or network analysis tools. The flexibility of a modular networking switch comes at a higher cost.
