In this article, we will provide a detailed breakdown of this cutting-edge storage solution.

Understanding the BasicsNon-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe)

NVMe stands for Non-Volatile Memory Express, a storage protocol that was designed to unleash the full potential of high-speed SSDs. Traditional storage protocols like SATA were created for slower hard drives, and as a result, they often bottleneck the performance of modern SSDs. NVMe, on the other hand, was developed from the ground up to work optimally with SSDs, providing improved speed, lower latency, and increased efficiency.

PCIe Gen4

PCIe Gen4 is the fourth generation of the Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) standard, a high-speed interface that connects various components inside a computer. In the context of storage, PCIe Gen4 offers twice the bandwidth of its predecessor, PCIe Gen3. This increased bandwidth is essential for taking full advantage of high-speed SSDs, like the PM1735a.

U.3 Connector

The U.3 connector is a versatile connector that allows for hot-swapping of drives in server and storage environments. It's compatible with both SAS and NVMe SSDs, making it a crucial component for enterprise storage solutions. The U.3 connector ensures flexibility and ease of use in various storage setups.

Gamers also benefit from a high-capacity SSD. With modern games frequently exceeding 100GB in size, a 1.6TB SSD ensures that you can have multiple games installed simultaneously, reducing the need for time-consuming downloads and installations.

NVMe and PCIe Gen4: A High-Speed DuoSpeed of NVMe

NVMe technology has revolutionized the storage industry by offering unparalleled speed and responsiveness. Unlike traditional hard drives or even SATA SSDs, which are often limited by legacy protocols, NVMe SSDs can read and write data at incredible speeds. This is a result of NVMe's efficient communication with the system's CPU, minimizing data transfer bottlenecks.

PCIe Gen4's Bandwidth Boost

The PCIe Gen4 interface takes NVMe to the next level. It offers double the bandwidth compared to the previous generation, PCIe Gen3. With 16 GT/s (Giga transfers per second) per lane, PCIe Gen4 provides a total bandwidth of 64 GB/s for a 16-lane connection. This substantial increase in bandwidth is a perfect match for the lightning-fast NVMe SSDs like the PM1735a.

The Role of U.3 ConnectorHot-Swapping Drives

In enterprise and data center environments, uptime is critical. The U.3 connector allows for hot-swapping of drives without having to power down the server or storage enclosure. This means that if a drive fails or needs to be upgraded, it can be replaced without interrupting operations. Hot-swapping contributes to improved system availability and reliability.

Compatibility with SAS and NVMe SSDs

The U.3 connector is a universal solution. It's compatible with both SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) and NVMe SSDs, which makes it a versatile choice for various storage setups. This flexibility ensures that the PM1735a SSD can be seamlessly integrated into a wide range of systems.

High-Performance Mixed-Use CapabilitiesVersatile Workloads
