Advanced Features and Capabilities

The GE-SX/LH-SC Cisco GSR12000 1 Port Gigabit Ethernet Line Card is a high-performance Ethernet interface card designed to provide advanced features and capabilities for large-scale network deployments. Here's an overview of its key features and capabilities:

  • High-speed connectivity: The GE-SX/LH-SC line card provides Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over both multimode and single-mode fiber optic cables, with maximum distances of 550 meters and 10 kilometers respectively. This enables high-speed connectivity over long distances, making it ideal for connecting geographically dispersed network locations.
  • Advanced QoS: The line card supports advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features, including traffic prioritization, congestion management, and bandwidth allocation. This allows network administrators to prioritize critical traffic and ensure that bandwidth is allocated efficiently across the network.
  • Layer 2 and Layer 3 support: The GE-SX/LH-SC line card supports both Layer 2 and Layer 3 Ethernet switching, allowing it to be used in a variety of network architectures. It also supports a range of Layer 3 protocols, including OSPF, BGP, and IS-IS, making it a flexible option for complex network deployments.
  • Advanced security features: The line card includes advanced security features such as Access Control Lists (ACLs), MAC address filtering, and VLAN support. This enables network administrators to control access to the network and secure sensitive data.
  • Hot-swappable design: The GE-SX/LH-SC line card is designed to be hot-swappable, allowing it to be replaced or added to a running system without disrupting network traffic. This makes it easy to scale network capacity and replace faulty hardware components without downtime.
Troubleshooting Common Issues and Solutions

The GE-SX/LH-SC Cisco GSR12000 1 Port Gigabit Ethernet Line Card is a network interface card designed for use with the Cisco GSR12000 series routers. This card provides high-speed Ethernet connectivity over both short-range and long-range fiber optic cabling.

Like any piece of network hardware, the GE-SX/LH-SC line card can experience a variety of issues that can affect its performance and reliability. Some common issues and their solutions are:

  • No Link or Connectivity Issues: If the line card is not able to establish a link with the network, the first thing to check is the fiber optic cabling. Ensure that the fiber cables are correctly installed and properly seated in the connectors. If the problem persists, try swapping the cable with a known-good one to see if the issue is with the cable. If this does not work, try re-seating the line card in its slot.
  • Slow Performance or Network Congestion: If the network performance is slow, it could be due to network congestion. Check if the line card is being overwhelmed by too much traffic. Ensure that there is enough bandwidth available for the line card to operate smoothly. It's also important to ensure that the network is not experiencing any other bottlenecks or issues that could be affecting performance.
  • Errors in Link Speed or Duplex Mismatch: If there are errors in the link speed or duplex settings, ensure that the line card is set to the correct settings for the network it is connected to. For example, if the network is running at full duplex, ensure that the line card is set to operate in full duplex mode.
  • Incompatible or Outdated Firmware: Incompatible or outdated firmware can cause issues with the line card's performance. Check the firmware version of the line card and ensure that it is up to date. If it is not, update the firmware to the latest version available from Cisco's website.
  • Power Issues: If the line card is not getting enough power, it can cause issues with its performance. Ensure that the line card is receiving the correct power supply and that there are no issues with the power supply unit or the electrical outlet.
  • Physical Damage: Physical damage to the line card can cause issues with its performance. Check the card for any visible damage, such as bent pins or cracks. If there is any physical damage, the line card may need to be replaced.
Configuring Access Control Lists (ACLs)

The GE-SX/LH-SC Cisco GSR12000 1 Port Gigabit Ethernet Line Card is a networking device that provides high-speed connectivity between network devices. Access Control Lists (ACLs) are a key feature of this line card that allows network administrators to control network traffic by specifying which packets are allowed or denied based on criteria such as source and destination IP address, protocol type, and port numbers.

To configure ACLs on the GE-SX/LH-SC Cisco GSR12000 1 Port Gigabit Ethernet Line Card, follow these steps:

  • Determine the criteria for filtering traffic: Before configuring ACLs, determine which traffic you want to allow or deny. You may want to allow traffic from specific IP addresses or block traffic from certain applications or ports.
  • Create an ACL: Once you have determined the filtering criteria, create an ACL using the access-list command. The syntax for the command is as follows:access-list access-list-number {permit|deny} protocol source-address source-wildcard destination-address destination-wildcard [port-operator port-number] [established]In this command, access-list-number is a unique number that identifies the ACL. The permit or deny keyword specifies whether the ACL allows or denies the specified traffic. The protocol, source-address, source-wildcard, destination-address, and destination-wildcard parameters specify the filtering criteria. The optional port-operator and port-number parameters specify the source or destination port number. The optional established parameter allows only established TCP connections.
  • Apply the ACL: Once the ACL is created, apply it to the appropriate interface using the ip access-group command. The syntax for the command is as follows:ip access-group access-list-number {in|out}In this command, access-list-number is the number of the ACL that you want to apply. The in or out keyword specifies whether the ACL should be applied to inbound or outbound traffic on the interface.
  • Verify the ACL: To verify that the ACL is working correctly, use the show access-lists command. This command displays the details of all configured ACLs, including the number of packets that match each ACL.
