Introduction to the 20 Ports Switch
The N5K-C5010P-BF Cisco Nexus 5010 Ethernet Switch is a 20-port, 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch designed for data center environments. It is part of the Cisco Nexus 5000 series of switches and provides high-performance, low-latency switching for virtualized, cloud, and other data center networks. The switch supports a range of advanced features and capabilities, including:
- Virtualization: The switch supports virtualization technologies, including VMware vCenter and Nexus 1000V, allowing administrators to manage virtual and physical network resources from a single console.
- Network Management: The switch supports advanced network management capabilities, including remote management, Quality of Service (QoS), and Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP).
- Routing and Switching: The switch supports a range of routing and switching protocols, including Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and Routing Information Protocol (RIP).
- Security: The switch supports advanced security features, including Access Control Lists (ACLs), Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology, and encrypted management protocols.
- Energy Efficiency: The switch supports energy-efficient technologies, including Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) and dynamic power management, helping to reduce power consumption and reduce operating costs.
The N5K-C5010P-BF switch provides a high-performance, scalable, and secure network infrastructure for large and complex data center environments.
Remote Management Protocol
The N5K-C5010P-BF Cisco Nexus 5010 Ethernet Switch is designed to be remotely managed and monitored, providing network administrators with the ability to manage and monitor the switch from a remote location. The switch supports multiple remote management protocols, including Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Telnet, Secure Shell (SSH), and HTTP/HTTPS.
SNMP is a widely-used protocol for managing and monitoring network devices, including switches, routers, and other network infrastructure components. The N5K-C5010P-BF switch supports SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3, providing administrators with the flexibility to choose the protocol that best meets their security and management requirements. With SNMP, administrators can monitor the switch's performance, receive notifications of critical events, and perform basic configuration tasks, such as setting up access control lists (ACLs) and enabling or disabling switch ports.
Telnet is a text-based protocol that provides administrators with a terminal interface to the switch. Using Telnet, administrators can log into the switch and execute commands to manage and monitor the switch.
SSH is a secure version of Telnet that encrypts the data transmitted between the switch and the remote management client. SSH provides administrators with a secure way to manage the switch, protecting sensitive data from being intercepted by unauthorized individuals.
HTTP/HTTPS is a web-based protocol that allows administrators to manage and monitor the switch using a web browser. The switch supports HTTPS, providing a secure way to access the switch's web interface. With HTTP/HTTPS, administrators can perform a range of management and monitoring tasks, such as viewing the switch's configuration, setting up access control lists, and monitoring switch performance.
The N5K-C5010P-BF switch's support for multiple remote management protocols provides network administrators with the flexibility and convenience needed to manage and monitor the switch effectively, ensuring reliable and secure network operations.
Advanced Routing and Switching
The N5K-C5010P-BF Cisco Nexus 5010 Ethernet Switch is a high-performance, advanced routing and switching platform. It supports a range of advanced routing and switching protocols and features, providing network administrators with the tools needed to build and manage complex, high-performance networks.
The switch supports Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), and Routing Information Protocol (RIP), providing administrators with the flexibility to choose the routing protocol that best meets their needs. With these protocols, administrators can implement dynamic routing, enabling the switch to automatically determine the best path for network traffic and adjust routing tables accordingly.
The switch also supports Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), providing administrators with a way to implement redundancy in their network. VRRP enables multiple switches to share a single IP address, providing redundancy in case one of the switches fails.
The switch supports Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN), providing administrators with a way to extend layer 2 networks over layer 3 networks. VXLAN enables administrators to create virtual networks, or VLANs, that span multiple physical locations, allowing for greater network flexibility and scalability.
In addition to its advanced routing and switching capabilities, the N5K-C5010P-BF switch also supports advanced network security features, such as access control lists (ACLs) and secure shell (SSH) protocol. These features help ensure the security and reliability of the network, protecting sensitive data and ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the switch.

About Refurbished Products
Different Types of Switches
Networking switches vary widely depending on the number of devices they can support, network bandwidth/speed, and form factor. Switches for small offices will have anything between 4 and 8 ports and can fit on a desk. For larger office network implementation, switches may have 24 ports, 48 ports, 96 ports, and 128 ports and are rack-mountable between 1U and 4U. Switches come in different types depending on the network speed and tasks they support. These include 40/100 Gbps, 10 Gigabit (up to 10000 Mbps), Gigabit Ethernet (up to 1000 Mbps), Power over Ethernet, and Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps).
Unmanaged Switches
The unmanaged switches offer fixed configuration on a plug-and-play basis. It is the most basic switch and there are a few choices in the market. These switches are affordable, but the basic features make them inappropriate for enterprise applications.
Managed Switches
The number of features and level of functionality improves with managed switches, making them ideal for enterprise and business applications. These switches are built with the command-line interface for ease of configuration. Equally, they support SNMP agents that come in handy when troubleshooting network issues.
The security on managed switches is better and will protect different types of traffic. Other features include support for virtual LANs, IP routing, and quality of service settings. Managed switches are more expensive compared to all other types of switches.
Smart Switches
Smart switches refer to switches that possess more features than those of unmanaged switches but do not have the full features of managed switches. Smart switches are more cost-effective than managed switches.
Some of the limitations of the smart switches are a lack of telnet access support, Web GUIs, and a lack of many features for VLANs. They are affordable compared to a fully managed switch and are suitable for a smaller computer network.
Modular Switches
Modular switches allow the addition of expansion modules as the network expands. The expansion modules allow for more networked devices but are application-specific. They may include wireless access points, firewalls, or network analysis tools. The flexibility of a modular networking switch comes at a higher cost.
