Product overview of Dell S5148F-ON Networking 48-Ports
The Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch is a high-performance networking device designed for enterprise-level data centers. It comes equipped with 48-Ports 25GbE SFP28, and 6 ports of 100GbE QSFP28, providing high-speed connectivity for your network.
48-Ports 25GbE SFP28
The Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch has 48-Ports of 25GbE SFP28. SFP28 stands for Small Form-Factor Pluggable 28. It is a hot-swappable, small-footprint transceiver module used for high-speed data communication applications. The SFP28 module supports data rates up to 25 Gbps and is backward compatible with SFP+ modules.
The SFP28 ports on the Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch are designed to connect devices such as servers, storage arrays, and network switches that support the SFP28 form factor. The 25GbE SFP28 ports provide high-speed connectivity between devices, allowing for fast data transfer rates.
6 ports 100GbE QSFP28
In addition to the 48-Ports of 25GbE SFP28, the Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch also has 6 ports of 100GbE QSFP28. QSFP28 stands for Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable 28. It is a hot-swappable, small-footprint transceiver module used for high-speed data communication applications. The QSFP28 module supports data rates up to 100 Gbps.
The 100GbE QSFP28 ports on the Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch are designed to connect devices such as core switches and routers that support the QSFP28 form factor. The 100GbE QSFP28 ports provide high-speed connectivity between core devices, allowing for fast data transfer rates.
The Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch has a switching capacity of 1.44 Tbps (Terabits per second). Switching capacity is the maximum amount of data that a switch can process at any given time. The higher the switching capacity, the more data the switch can handle.
The switching capacity of the Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch makes it suitable for enterprise-level data centers that require high-speed data transfer rates and low latency.
The Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch has a routing performance of up to 1.68 Bpps (Billion packets per second). Routing performance is the maximum number of packets that a switch can route per second. The higher the routing performance, the more packets the switch can route.
The routing performance of the Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch makes it suitable for use in large data centers that require high-performance routing capabilities.
The Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch comes with two redundant power supplies. Redundant power supplies provide backup power in case one of the power supplies fails. This ensures that the switch remains operational in the event of a power supply failure.
The power supplies on the Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch are hot-swappable, which means that they can be replaced while the switch is still operational. This minimizes downtime and ensures that the switch remains operational.
The Dell S5148F-ON Networking Switch comes with Dell EMC Networking OS10 software. The OS10 software provides a modular, open networking platform that allows you to customize the switch to meet your specific needs.
The OS10 software provides advanced network automation and management capabilities, including zero-touch provisioning, automated network configuration, and real-time monitoring. This makes it easier to manage and maintain the switch, reducing the risk of downtime and improving network performance.

About Refurbished Products
Different Types of Switches
Networking switches vary widely depending on the number of devices they can support, network bandwidth/speed, and form factor. Switches for small offices will have anything between 4 and 8 ports and can fit on a desk. For larger office network implementation, switches may have 24 ports, 48 ports, 96 ports, and 128 ports and are rack-mountable between 1U and 4U. Switches come in different types depending on the network speed and tasks they support. These include 40/100 Gbps, 10 Gigabit (up to 10000 Mbps), Gigabit Ethernet (up to 1000 Mbps), Power over Ethernet, and Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps).
The unmanaged switches offer fixed configurations on a plug-and-play basis. It is the most basic switch and there are a few choices in the market. These switches are affordable, but the basic features make them inappropriate for enterprise applications.
The number of features and level of functionality improves with managed switches, making them ideal for enterprise and business applications. These switches are built with the command-line interface for ease of configuration. Equally, they support SNMP agents that come in handy when troubleshooting network issues.
The security on managed switches is better and will protect different types of traffic. Other features include support for virtual LANs, IP routing, and quality of service settings. Managed switches are more expensive compared to all other types of switches.
Smart switches refer to switches that possess more features than those unmanaged switches but do not have the full features of managed switches. Smart switches are more cost-effective than managed switches.
Some of the limitations of the smart switches are a lack of telnet access support, Web GUIs, and a lack of many features for VLANs. They are affordable compared to a fully managed switch and are suitable for a smaller computer network.
Modular switches allow the addition of expansion modules as the network expands. The expansion modules allow for more networked devices but are application-specific. They may include wireless access points, firewalls, or network analysis tools. The flexibility of a modular networking switch comes at a higher cost.
