Description
Management and Monitoring
The HPE Proliant BL460c G8 server blade comes with several management and monitoring features to help administrators monitor and manage the server efficiently.
The server comes with the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) management engine, which provides remote management capabilities. The iLO engine allows administrators to remotely access the server and perform various tasks, such as server power management, remote console access, and remote deployment of firmware and software updates. The iLO engine also provides a web interface for easy access to the server management features.
The HPE Insight Control suite is a management platform that provides complete control over the server blade infrastructure. Insight Control allows administrators to monitor and manage the server blades, as well as automate the deployment of new server blades, perform health monitoring, and generate performance reports.
The HPE OneView management software provides a unified management interface for managing the entire server infrastructure. OneView allows administrators to manage and automate tasks across multiple servers, storage, and networking resources. OneView also provides a single dashboard to monitor and manage the health of the server infrastructure.
In addition to these management features, the server blade comes with HPE Active Health System, which provides continuous monitoring of server health. The Active Health System collects and analyzes system data and provides proactive alerts, allowing administrators to identify and fix issues before they become critical.
Storage and RAID
The HPE Proliant BL460c G8 server blade supports multiple storage options, including internal and external storage.
The server blade comes with a Smart Array P220i controller with 512MB FBWC (Flash Backed Write Cache), which supports RAID levels 0, 1, and 10. The Smart Array P220i controller provides hardware-based RAID acceleration, improving system performance and data protection.
The server blade also supports up to two hot-plug small form factor (SFF) SAS, SATA or SSD drives. These drives can be configured in a variety of RAID levels using the Smart Array P220i controller.
For external storage, the server blade supports the HPE Smart Array P721m controller, which provides support for SAS, SATA, and SSD drives. The Smart Array P721m controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 10, 5, 6, 50, and 60.
The server blade also supports HPE Smart Storage Battery, which provides backup power to the Smart Array controllers, ensuring data protection during power outages.
Maximize Bandwidth
To maximize the bandwidth of a server, there are several steps that can be taken:
- Upgrade the network interface card (NIC): If the server is equipped with an older or slower NIC, upgrading it to a faster model can significantly increase bandwidth. Look for NICs that support the latest standards, such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet or faster.
- Use teaming or bonding: NIC teaming or bonding combines multiple NICs into a single virtual NIC, increasing bandwidth and providing redundancy. This can be done using software or hardware-based solutions.
- Optimize network settings: Adjusting network settings such as the MTU (maximum transmission unit) size, flow control, and TCP/IP settings can help to maximize network throughput.
- Upgrade the server hardware: Upgrading the server hardware can improve overall performance, which can also improve network bandwidth. Upgrading the CPU, memory, and storage subsystem can all have a positive impact on network performance.
- Optimize application settings: Some applications have settings that can be adjusted to optimize network performance. For example, adjusting the number of concurrent connections, reducing the size of data packets, or adjusting the buffer size can all help to improve network bandwidth.
By taking these steps, it is possible to maximize the bandwidth of a server and improve overall network performance.
