Network Protocol Support for Flexible Deployment

The 845966-B21 HPE 100Gbps 100GBase-SR4 Multi-mode Fiber 100m 850nm MPO Connector QSFP28 Transceiver Module is designed to support various network protocols, making it a flexible and versatile solution for network deployments. This transceiver module supports Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and InfiniBand protocols, among others.

Ethernet is a widely used protocol for local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) that allows computers and other devices to communicate with each other. The 845966-B21 HPE transceiver module supports Ethernet protocols such as 100G Ethernet, 40G Ethernet, and 10G Ethernet.

Fibre Channel is a protocol used primarily for storage area networks (SANs) and provides high-speed data transfer between servers and storage devices. The 845966-B21 HPE transceiver module supports Fibre Channel protocols such as 16G Fibre Channel and 32G Fibre Channel.

InfiniBand is a high-speed interconnect technology used for connecting servers and storage devices in data centers. The 845966-B21 HPE transceiver module supports InfiniBand protocols such as EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) InfiniBand, HDR (High Data Rate) InfiniBand, and FDR (Fourteen Data Rate) InfiniBand.

The support for these protocols allows the 845966-B21 HPE transceiver module to be deployed in a wide range of applications, including data centers, enterprise networks, cloud computing, and high-performance computing. It also allows for seamless integration with existing networking equipment, providing a flexible and cost-effective solution for network deployments.

Comparison with Transceiver Modules

To provide a better understanding of the 845966-B21 HPE transceiver module, it is useful to compare it with other transceiver modules available on the market. Here are a few examples:

  • 845355-B21 HPE: This is another 100Gbps transceiver module from HPE, but it uses a different connector type (LC) and supports a shorter transmission distance (70m for OM3/OM4 fiber). The 845966-B21 HPE, on the other hand, uses an MPO connector and supports a longer transmission distance (100m for OM4 fiber).
  • 407-BBOU Dell EMC: This is a 100Gbps transceiver module from Dell EMC that uses an MPO connector and supports a transmission distance of up to 100m for OM4 fiber, similar to the 845966-B21 HPE. However, the 845966-B21 HPE has a slightly lower power consumption (3.5W vs 3.7W) and operates at a slightly lower temperature range (-5°C to 70°C vs -40°C to 85°C).
  • J9150D HPE Aruba: This is a 10Gbps transceiver module from HPE Aruba that uses an LC connector and supports a transmission distance of up to 300m for OM3/OM4 fiber. While the 845966-B21 HPE is designed for higher data rates (100Gbps) and shorter transmission distances (100m for OM4 fiber), the J9150D HPE Aruba is suitable for lower data rates (10Gbps) and longer transmission distances (up to 300m).

The 845966-B21 HPE transceiver module is a high-performance, high-reliability solution that is specifically designed for 100Gbps Ethernet networks using multimode fiber optic cables. It provides a longer transmission distance and lower power consumption compared to some other 100Gbps transceiver modules, making it a cost-effective and efficient solution for high-speed network deployments.

Maintenance and Cleaning Procedures

Regular maintenance and cleaning of the 845966-B21 HPE transceiver module is important to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Here are some procedures to follow:

  • Inspect the transceiver module: Before cleaning the module, inspect it for any damage or signs of wear and tear. Replace any damaged parts as necessary.
  • Use a clean environment: Cleaning should be performed in a clean and dust-free environment to avoid introducing contaminants that may affect performance.
  • Use proper cleaning tools: Use only lint-free wipes, cleaning sticks, and cleaning solutions that are specifically designed for use on fiber optic components.
  • Clean the connector: The MPO connector should be cleaned with a lint-free wipe moistened with a cleaning solution. Wipe the connector in one direction to avoid scratches and ensure proper cleaning.
  • Inspect the connector: After cleaning, inspect the connector for any contaminants or damage. If necessary, repeat the cleaning process until the connector is free of contaminants.
  • Store the module properly: When not in use, store the transceiver module in a clean and dry environment. Use a protective cap to cover the MPO connector to avoid damage and contamination.
  • Follow manufacturer guidelines: Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for maintenance and cleaning of the 845966-B21 HPE transceiver module. Consult the user manual or contact technical support if you have any questions or concerns.

By following these procedures, you can help ensure the optimal performance and reliability of the 845966-B21 HPE transceiver module, and extend its service life.

About New Bulk Pack Products

New Bulk Pack products come with clamshell boxes and do not have any manufacturer warranty. Many times manufacturers disassemble whole units to use parts or pulled from a new system. Typically, this product doesn't come with software or instructions unless indicated and no Manufacturer’s genuine warranty. You can take note these are not brand new products.

Building a fibre-optic network calls for a lot of planning and consideration of many factors. Transceivers are part of the many devices used to build optical fibre systems. A transceiver serves the combined roles of a transmitter and a receiver in that it transmits and receives signals. They are most common in communication equipment such as cellular phones, cordless telephone sets, and radios. Small form factors are required as networks become dense and space is limited, which sees transceivers included in chipsets.

In local area networks (LAN), a transceiver is used to connect a computer to printers and other devices on the network. Usually, the transceiver is integrated into the Network Interface Card (NIC)

Typical Roles of a Transceiver

  • Used to convert frequencies from IF to RF.
  • Widespread use in wireless communication to transmit data – voice, data, and video.
  • RF transceivers are used in communication devices to support radio and TV signal transmission, digital signals transmission, and satellite communication.
  • Collision detection – detection of simultaneous signals on the network.
  • Transceivers can be deployed to provide a jabber function to interrupt the transmission of long data stream outputs.

Look no further for all types of transceivers including fibre optic transceivers, wireless transceivers, Ethernet transceivers, and RF transceivers. All these transceivers have different characteristics and support full-duplex communication, but the principle behind their work remains the same. Different types of transceivers will have varying numbers of ports used in the transceiver networking connections.

RF Transceivers: these devices are used to transmit video or voice data over a wireless medium. Commonly used for satellite communication, radio transmission, and ITE/WiMax/WLAN networks. The radio transceiver works by silencing the receiver when it is transmitting. There is an electronic switch that facilitates the connection of both the receiver and transmitter on the same antenna. The switch protects the receiver from damage that may be caused by the transmitter output.

Fiber Optic Transceivers: Also referred to as optical modules or fibre optical transceivers. Used to transmit data in fibre optic technology. The network must also have electronic components to encode or decode data into light signals.

Ethernet Transceivers: Basically used to connect electronic devices in a network so that they are able to transmit and receive data. It is also referred to as a media access unit (MAU). The best application of these transceivers is in the specification of IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet. Ethernet transceivers will detect a collision, provide Ethernet interface processing, convert digital data, and provide access to the network.

Wireless Transceivers: Wireless transceivers are a fundamental component necessary for data delivery in wireless networks. These transceivers have two layers. The physical layer has a baseband processor and RF front end. The processor converts a bitstream to a collection symbol flow for data transmission. The second layer is a MAC layer for link traffic control in contacting wireless links, improving data throughput, and preventing collisions.
