Model Number: HPE R8Q69A

The model number, HPE R8Q69A, uniquely identifies this network switch. It's crucial for ordering, technical support, and product compatibility.

Switch Type: Aruba 6200m

The switch belongs to the Aruba 6200m series, known for its robust performance and advanced features. Aruba, a subsidiary of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), is a well-regarded name in the networking industry.

Port Configuration: 48 Ports Gigabit Ethernet

The switch offers 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports, making it suitable for connecting numerous devices with high-speed data transmission. Gigabit Ethernet is a common choice for businesses, as it provides a balance between speed and cost.

Layer: Layer 3

The switch operates at Layer 3 of the OSI model, meaning it can perform routing functions. This capability allows it to make intelligent routing decisions, enhancing network efficiency and performance.

SFP+ Ports: 4

The HPE Aruba 6200m comes equipped with 4 SFP+ (Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus) ports. These ports support high-speed fiber-optic connections, making them ideal for interconnecting switches over longer distances.

Stackable: Yes

One of the notable features of this switch is its stackable design. This allows multiple switches to be interconnected to form a single logical unit, simplifying network management and improving redundancy.

Maximum Stacking Distance: 10 Kilometers

The HPE Aruba 6200m boasts an impressive maximum stacking distance of 10 kilometers. This means that switches can be located up to 10 kilometers apart while still forming a stack, enhancing flexibility in network design.

Form Factor: Rack-Mountable 1U

The switch is rack-mountable, designed to be installed in standard 19-inch equipment racks. Its 1U form factor ensures it occupies minimal rack space, making it suitable for data center and server room deployments.

Understanding the HPE R8Q69A Aruba 6200m 4SFP+ Switch

Now that we've covered the basic specifications, let's dive deeper into what each of these features means for your network infrastructure.

Gigabit Ethernet for High-Speed Connectivity

The 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports provided by the HPE Aruba 6200m Switch offer high-speed connectivity for your network devices. Gigabit Ethernet is 10 times faster than its predecessor, Fast Ethernet, with a maximum data transfer rate of 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps). This means that your devices can communicate and transfer data quickly and efficiently. Whether it's connecting computers, servers, printers, or other networked equipment, these Gigabit Ethernet ports ensure that data flows smoothly and without bottlenecks.

Layer 3 Functionality for Intelligent Routing

Layer 3 switches, like the HPE Aruba 6200m, offer advanced routing capabilities. At Layer 3, the switch can make routing decisions based on IP addresses, allowing it to route data efficiently within your network. This is particularly useful in larger networks where multiple subnets are in use. For example, if you have different departments or segments in your organization that need to communicate, a Layer 3 switch can make this happen seamlessly.

Additionally, the Layer 3 functionality enhances security by segmenting the network and controlling traffic flow. It can be configured to allow or deny specific traffic based on routing policies, adding a layer of protection to your network.

SFP+ Ports for High-Speed Fiber Connectivity

The 4 SFP+ (Small Form-Factor Pluggable Plus) ports on the HPE Aruba 6200m Switch offer high-speed fiber connectivity options. These ports are typically used for uplink connections to other switches or for connecting to devices over longer distances. Fiber-optic connections provide several advantages over traditional copper connections, including faster data transmission, immunity to electromagnetic interference, and longer reach. This makes the SFP+ ports valuable for organizations that need to extend their network beyond the limitations of copper cabling.

Stackable Design for Scalability and Redundancy

The stackable design of the HPE Aruba 6200m Switch allows multiple switches to be connected and managed as a single unit. This is especially useful for organizations that need to expand their network as they grow. When switches are stacked, they act as a unified entity, simplifying network management. It becomes easier to configure, monitor, and maintain the entire stack, reducing the administrative overhead associated with managing individual switches.

Stacking also improves network redundancy. If one switch in the stack fails, the others can seamlessly take over its functions, minimizing downtime and ensuring network continuity. This feature is critical for businesses that require high availability and reliability for their network services.

Maximum Stacking Distance of 10 Kilometers

The impressive 10-kilometer maximum stacking distance of the HPE Aruba 6200m Switch provides greater flexibility in network design. In scenarios where switches need to be placed in different parts of a building or campus, they can still be part of the same stack. This extended stacking distance simplifies network expansion and topology planning, as switches can be located where they are most needed without concerns about physical proximity.

Rack-Mountable 1U Form Factor for Space Efficiency

The 1U form factor of the HPE Aruba 6200m Switch is ideal for organizations that have limited rack space in their data centers or server rooms. With a height of just 1 rack unit (1.75 inches), this switch can be easily integrated into standard 19-inch equipment racks, allowing you to maximize your available space. It's a space-efficient solution that doesn't compromise on performance or features.
