Deployment and Configuration Guideline
Initial Configuration:
- Connect the router to a computer via the console port using a serial cable.
- Open a terminal program on the computer and configure the terminal settings to match the router’s console settings (9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, no flow control).
- Power on the router and press the Enter key to access the router’s CLI.
- Use the “enable” command to enter privileged mode.
- Use the “configure terminal” command to enter configuration mode.
Network Interface Configuration:
- Use the “interface” command to enter interface configuration mode.
- Configure the interface with the desired IP address, subnet mask, and other settings using the “ip address”, “no shutdown”, and other commands as needed.
- Repeat the above steps for all interfaces that need to be configured.
Routing Configuration:
- Use the “router” command to enter routing configuration mode.
- Configure the routing protocol of choice (such as OSPF or EIGRP) using the appropriate commands.
- Use the “network” command to advertise the interfaces that are participating in the routing protocol.
- Use the “redistribute” command to redistribute routes from other routing protocols if necessary.
Security Configuration:
- Use the “ip access-list” command to create access lists for filtering traffic.
- Use the “access-class” command to apply the access lists to interfaces.
- Use the “crypto key” command to generate and configure encryption keys for secure communication.
- Use the “crypto map” command to apply the encryption keys to interfaces.
Service Configuration:
- Use the “ip service-policy” command to configure Quality of Service (QoS) settings for traffic on interfaces.
- Use the “ip nat” command to configure Network Address Translation (NAT) for interfaces.
- Use the “ip virtual-reassembly” command to configure virtual reassembly for fragmented packets.
Saving Configuration:
- Use the “copy running-config startup-config” command to save the current configuration to the router’s non-volatile memory.
- Use the “show running-config” command to verify the current configuration.
