Description
Introduction to the QW941A HPE SN8000B Enhanced Fibre Channel Blade Option
The QW941A HPE SN8000B Enhanced Fibre Channel Blade Option is a high-performance Fibre Channel switch designed for use in data center environments. This blade option is designed for use in the HPE BladeSystem c-Class Enclosure and provides 48 ports of 8GB Fibre Channel switching capability. It supports advanced fabric management, security, and advanced analytics features, and enables the deployment of virtual SANs (VSANs) and ISL trunking. This blade option also supports Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), Fibre Channel Routing (FCR), and Inter-Fabric Routing, and Data Center Bridging (DCB). Additionally, it supports FC-NVMe and NVMe-oF, and provides advanced performance monitoring and analytics capabilities. This blade option is designed for high availability, scalability, and flexibility, and it is compatible with HPE OneView and HPE SAN Manager. It’s also compatible with HPE BladeSystem and HPE Synergy.
Quality of Service (QoS) and Traffic Management
The QW941A HPE SN8000B Enhanced Fibre Channel Blade Option supports Quality of Service (QoS) and Traffic Management features, which enable the administrator to prioritize and manage network traffic. These features include:
- Class of Service (CoS) mapping and prioritization: Allows the administrator to map traffic to different classes of service based on priority, and to assign different levels of priority to different traffic types.
- Traffic shaping and rate limiting: Allows the administrator to shape and limit the amount of traffic sent and received on a particular port or VLAN, preventing network congestion and ensuring that critical traffic is not impacted by non-critical traffic.
- Flow control: Allows the administrator to control the flow of traffic on a particular port or VLAN, preventing network congestion and ensuring that critical traffic is not impacted by non-critical traffic.
- Congestion management: Allows the administrator to monitor and manage network congestion, and to take preventative measures to avoid network outages.
- Quality of Service (QoS) policies: Allows the administrator to create and enforce policies that govern the handling of network traffic, based on a variety of factors such as traffic type, source, and destination.
Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) Support
Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) Support allows the QW941A HPE SN8000B Enhanced Fibre Channel Blade Option to run Fibre Channel (FC) protocol over an Ethernet network, enabling organizations to converge their storage and data networks onto a single, unified infrastructure. This feature allows for the following:
- Reduced network complexity and costs: By running FC over Ethernet, organizations can reduce the number of networks they need to manage and maintain, which can lower costs and increase efficiency.
- Improved scalability: FCoE allows organizations to scale their storage and data networks independently, giving them more flexibility to meet changing business needs.
- Increased bandwidth: FCoE allows organizations to take advantage of the increased bandwidth of Ethernet networks, which can improve the performance of their storage and data networks.
- Enhanced security: FCoE allows organizations to leverage existing Ethernet security features, such as access control lists (ACLs) and port security, to secure their storage and data networks.
- Improved management: FCoE allows organizations to manage their storage and data networks using a single set of tools and interfaces, which can reduce complexity and increase efficiency.
Fibre Channel Routing (FCR) and Inter-Fabric Routing
Fibre Channel Routing (FCR) and Inter-Fabric Routing are advanced features of the QW941A HPE SN8000B Enhanced Fibre Channel Blade Option that allow organizations to connect multiple Fibre Channel fabrics together, enabling them to share resources and extend the reach of their storage networks. These features include:
- Fibre Channel Routing: FCR allows organizations to route Fibre Channel traffic between different fabrics, which can improve scalability and enable them to share resources across multiple locations.
- Inter-Fabric Routing: Inter-Fabric Routing allows organizations to connect multiple Fibre Channel fabrics together, enabling them to extend the reach of their storage networks and share resources across different fabrics.
- Improved scalability: FCR and Inter-Fabric Routing allows organizations to scale their storage networks independently, giving them more flexibility to meet changing business needs.
- Increased bandwidth: FCR and Inter-Fabric Routing allow organizations to take advantage of the increased bandwidth of Fibre Channel networks, which can improve the performance of their storage networks.
- Enhanced security: FCR and Inter-Fabric Routing allow organizations to leverage existing Fibre Channel security features, such as access control lists (ACLs) and port security, to secure their storage networks.
- Improved management: FCR and Inter-Fabric Routing allow organizations to manage their storage networks using a single set of tools and interfaces, which can reduce complexity and increase efficiency.
